What is a mash up and what can it do for my business?
Originally, a mash up was a new term which revolved around music. A few decades ago putting two songs together to make one new song was called a "remix". Now if you do a search on a mash up you may get the same results of two songs mixed together to make one.
However, the term "mashup"(one word) refers to what is considered two or more software applications combined into one display, rendering information for an end user on a Web site. For example #tweet-a-lot which was created by Mooktakim Ahmed, in London, UK; and registered June 9, of 2012.
The mashup referred to as #tweet-a-lot, combines Twitter, Twitter Streaming, and Embedly APIs which produces a competitive marketing tool geared toward starting a group tweeting trend in a short period of time, while making a game out of the event.

The purpose of this mashup is to get consumers involved online while launching a new product or holding an event. While making a social game out of see who can "tweet" the most, consumers who join in earn points for their tweets and win a prize at the end. Sounds like fun right? The point system works like this :
Participate by posting on twitter with #tweetalotapp hashtag!
The more a person tweets, the more points they earn.
1 point for tweet
5 points for picture tweet
10 points for video tweet
50 points for being re-tweeted
and can be found on the Tweet-a-lot Website at http://tweet-a-lot.com/36783-sample in the bar above the sample competition displayed on the Web page; under the blue "competition rules" button.
This system is easy to use, players can join automatically, and there is nothing to install. These tweeting blasts stream live and keep live score. While potential customers are tweeting away to win something, data is analyzed, contacts are established, and product recognition grows by the player. Results can also be displayed on a marketing service client's Website, or company blog to drive traffic to the Website, establish the company's online presence and achieve brand and logo recognition.
This mashup service is not free of course, but the very low price of ten dollars per day will give a business owner a very large audience in which to spread information about their product, service, or event.
